Abstract:

Maria del Mar González Rodríguez is a psychologist who was one of the pioneers in studies on homoparenthood in Spain. Her research, the 2000s onwards, played an essential role in the parliamentary debate in the country, which culminated in the approval of homosexual marriage in 2013. Spain, a Catholic-majority country that had left the Franco dictatorship two decades earlier, was the third country in the world, after Sweden and Denmark, to recognize the right of homosexuals to unite. Her studies deal with unconventional families, family diversity, child and family development, and their relationship with education and health. Our conversation dealt with homoparenthood, the establishment of filiation rights for this social group, studies on these family configurations, and the leading health implications of homoparenthood.
