Abstract:

An ecological study aimed to determine the consumption of low-dose naltrexone (LDN) in the 26 Brazilian capitals and the Federal District. In addition, it was following the trend of this consumption between the years 2014 to 2020. The data collection regarding the dispensation of manipulated Naltrexone took place through the National System for the Management of Controlled Products, published in 2020, considering low dose prescriptions of up to 5 mg. The calculation of dispensing coefficients used population estimatesthe Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics Research were used. Descriptive statistical analysis and generalized Prais-Winsten regression were used for the time series. The observed trends were classified as increasing, stable or decreasing, with a confidence interval of 95% and a significance level of 5%. The results showed higher LDN consumption coefficients in the central-west, south and southeast regions and lower in the north and northeast. An increasing LDN dispensing was observed in 55.6% of the capitals, stationary in 44.4% and absence of decreasing coefficients. Despite the limited evidence regarding LDN pharmacotherapy and its off-label prescription, these data show that the prescription, the dispensing and the consumption have been growing in Brazil, with emphasis on the central-south regions of the country.
