Abstract:

The article aims to propose principles for male care focused on sexual health, reproduction and parenthood, as well as presenting a stream to the involvement of men in prenatal care. The proposal of the authors went through consensus building process among invited experts. The main results are: (a) the principles of male care lines focused on sexual health, reproduction and parenting, and (b) a proposal for the involvement of men in prenatal care flow. We conclude that the cultural constructions of men’s life, including their social relations and fatherhood interfere in health care actions as following: (a) the idea of man as a collaborator in his pregnant partner health promotion and/or offspring; (b) the fatherhood is strongly linked to family financial support; (c) the gaps generated between the traditional idea of fatherhood and the new family and gender arrangements.
