Abstract:

The aim of this study was to determine the presence and association of possible mental disorders diagnoses in pregnant women assisted in primary care and newborns’s conditions. A longitudinal study with pregnant women (18-39 years), in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, assisted at primary care in the metropolitan region of São Paulo (February to August/2014). Has used: sociodemographic questionnaire; instrument for Mental Disorders Assessment in Primary Care; and an interview with information and mother´s perception of the behavior of the newborns. Three hundred pregnant women were interviewed, and 76 (26.6%) presented possible diagnosis of mental disorders, being that, 46 (16.2%) women had symptoms of depression/dysthymia and 58 (20.4%) anxiety/panic. There were 14 (4.9%) low birth weight and 19 (6.7%) premature children, and, was no association with the probable diagnosis of mental disorders; the possible presence of mental disorders was associated with maternal perception’s about newborns behavior (p = 0.001). Pregnant women assisted at low risk prenatal care showed relevant frequency of possible mental disorders, then, the identification of these changes during pregnancy can also contribute to a better understanding of the mother and child dynamics and contribute to the quality of family care.
