Abstract
Objective: To review the scientific publications about iron, vitamin A and zinc nutritional status in Brazilian child attending daycare centers, addressing diagnostic methods, prevalence of its deficiencies and risk factors. Methods: The databases selected were PubMed, LILACS and SciELO to the literature review. There were included observational studies with random representative sample that used biochemical indicators to evaluate the nutritional status of iron, vitamin A and zinc of preschool child attending public daycare centers. It was estimated the median prevalence for anemia and vitamin A deficiency. The variables associated to anemia were computed. Results: Twenty one observational studies were included, in which the nutritional status of iron, vitamin A and zinc were analyzed in 17, forth and three, respectively. The median prevalence of anemia and vitamin A deficiency were 42.7% and 12.5%, respectively. The conditions most associated with anemia were younger children and children in more unfavorable socioeconomic situations. Conclusions: The results suggest a high prevalence of anemia, as well as of hypovitamonosis A, in Brazilian child attending daycare centers, with etiological perspectives focused on infectious diseases.
