Abstract:

Objective: To analyze imprisonment causes inRio Grande do Sul’s FASE and their relationship with former teenager inmates mortality between the years of 2002 and 2014.
Methods: Observational study of non-probabilistic sampling conducted with the database of adolescents releasedprison units of FASE-RS in the city of Porto Alegre in the period2002 to 2012 (n = 8290). The following information was gathered: date of release, infraction, skin color, gender and prison term. This sample was compared with the database of the Mortality Verification System of the Health Department, in order to identify adolescents who died after being releasedprison.
Results: Adolescents were mainly imprisoned for crimes related to property and narcotics, mostly trafficking, which raised approximately 700%. Death was associated (p3). This sample presented high mortality rates being homicide the main cause.
Conclusions: The evidence highlights the elevated vulnerability to which adolescents ed by the juvenile justice system are exposed.
There is an association between crimes of low offensive power and high rates of post-freedom mortality.
