Abstract:

The objectives of this study were to identify, among people with hypertension, the sociodemographic factors associated with non-use of routine medical appointments available in primary care and check if the non-use of consultations interfere with nonadherence to pharmacotherapy, the pressure uncontrolled and hospitalization. A cross-sectional study with random stratified sampling. They interviewed 422 people living in the city of Maringá, Paraná. There were crude and adjusted analyzes using logistic regression, estimating odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals. It was found that, in the six months preceding the interview, 47 (11.1%) people did not use routine appointments. Male gender, nonwhite skin color and use only public health services were associated with non-use of consultations. Most of those who did not use the consultations also failed to adhere to pharmacotherapy and presented uncontrolled blood pressure. Health professionals need to develop strategies to increase demand for hypertension to medical appointments, priority population groups of men, not white people and using public health services. The greater use of consultation can assist in pressure control and reduce complications.
