Abstract:

This study evaluated the impact of nutrition assistance (intervention) on the total gestational weight gain for adolescents and to understand the perceptions of adolescents about the intervention. It is a quantitative and qualitative research with triangulation methods, held in a public maternity hospital in Rio de Janeiro with 204 adolescents, divided into the groups pre-intervention and intervention. The hypothesis of homogeneity of proportions was tested by bivariate and multivariate analysis using Poisson regression with robust variance. The qualitative approach was conducted using semi-structured interviews with 12 adolescents, whose data were submitted to content analysis. The results indicate that the intervention did not have positive effect on the adequacy of total gestational weight gain. The teens realized the diet plan as a set of rules incompatible with the conditions of pregnant women. The category "almost every query was the same thing" arose as a synthesis of perceptions about the intervention. It was concluded that there is need to reassess the technical and scientific instruments marker of nutritional assistance and make it centered care in making decisions.
