Background: To review the available scientific literature about the effects on health of the occupational exposure to Legionella spp.Methods: A systematic review of the retrieved scientific literaturethe databases MEDLINE (via PubMed), ISI-Web of Science (Institute for Scientific Information), Cochrane Library, LILCAS and SCOPUS. Terms were used as descriptors and free-text were ««Legionnaires\' Disease» «Legionellosis» «Occupational Exposure» «Occupational Diseases».
Results: 222 references were retrieved, after applying inclusion/exclusion criteria 13 articles were ed. Of them: 9 describe pneumonia, 4 Pontiac’s Fever, 1 legionellosis and 3 the death. The main causative agent of disease in workers exposed was Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1.
Conclusions: Legionella spp infection is closely related to professions there are aerolizaded water, mainly in workers subjected to long exposures or even re-exposure. Outbreaks occurs seasonally, especially in the warmer months.
