The Health Secretary of São Paulo, Brazil has developed a Health Necessities Index (HNI) to identify priority areas to offer health assistance. In 2008 a survey on oral health status was accomplished. The objective in this ecological study is to analyze the oral health status in relation to the HNI. The variables, stratified by the age of 5, 12 and 15 years old were: percentage of individuals with difficulties of access to dental care services; dmft and DMFT; prevalence of necessity of tooth extraction and caries free. Data was analyzed for the 25 Health Technical Supervisions (HTS). Covariance Statistical Test was used as well as the Pearson correlation coefficient and linear regression model. It was observed a positive correlation between high scores of the HNI and difficulty of access to services. In the HTS with high scores of HNI it was observed a higher experience of dental caries, a higher necessity of tooth extractions and a low prevalence of caries free. In order to improve health conditions of the population it is mandatory to prioritize actions in areas of social deprivation.Key words: Health Services Needs and Demand, Health Services Accessibility, oral health, DMF index
