Abstract:

Abstract: This periodic intends to know the feelings of assistants and technical nurses when submitted to Papanicolaou examination. Descriptive research with a qualitative approach conducted in September and October of 2006 with 35 employees of a public institution, reference in gynecology in Fortaleza-CE. The data was collected through a semi-structured interview containing one orienteering question and analyzed according to the methodological-theoretical reference of social phenomenology. The testimonials were separated in three themes: An exam that causes discomfort, fear and shame; an exam that causes anxiety about the results; and an exam that makes me calm and relaxed. Despite of the interviews belong to an institution which takes care of women in prevention of cervical-uterine cancer, bad feelings about papanicolaou exam were still reported. One concludes it is important to do educative projects emphasizing the importance of evaluation of the users so as to minimize those problems.
