Abstract:

The main objective of this study is verifying the association between sexual maturation and physical activity in adolescence. It’s a systematic review study based on articles published between 2008 and 2018 in the Medline - PubMed, Scielo, Web of Science, Scopus, Lilacs and Adolec BVS databases. Used descriptors and keywords adolescent, sexual maturation, survey, questionnaire and physical activity were used in Portuguese language and its equivalence in English language. 806 articles identified. Twelve articles were included after applying the ion criteria. The highest level of physical activity was observed in adolescents in the initial sexual maturation stage. The evolution of sexual maturational development seems to be correlated with reduced levels of physical activity. The results don’t show a consensus on the association between the sexual maturation and the physical activity levels regarding the direct or inverse predisposition of sexual maturation comparing to the level of physical activity among adolescents. Further researches are needed to understand this relationship and enable involved professionals with adolescent health to effectively act in the fight against physical inactivity.
