Abstract:

The aim of the study was to analyze the prevalence and associated factors with falls in the elderly ascribed to a Basic Health Unit (BHU) in Natal/RN. Cross-sectional study perfomed with 280 elderly witch data was collected in the BHU dependences. The association between denouements fall and recurrent fall and independent variables was assessed by bivariate analysis and Poisson regression, with calculation of their respective prevalence ratios. Prevailed female elderly (68,2%), with mean age of 71,6 years (± 6,7), literate (54,6%), non-retired (73,5%) and sedentary (87,1%). Recorded fall 53,6% of the elderly, but 27,8% fell two or more times. The predictive model of fall included female gender (PR= 1,81), osteoarticular diseases (PR= 1,71) and impaired balance (PR= 0,88), while the functional mobility (PR=0,94), fear of falling (PR=1,21) and balance disorders (PR= 0,80) composed the final model of recurrent falls. It was found a higher prevalence of single fall episode and associated factors included sociodemographic variables, health and physical performance. On the other hand, were associated with the occurrence of two or more falls only the physical performance variables.
