Abstract:

We analyzed the prevalence and factors associated with performing the Complete Neonatal Screening (CNT) among children (< 2 years old) in Brazil included in the National Health Survey 2013 (n=4,442) and 2019 (n=5,643). A cross-sectional study compared the estimates of prevalence and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) of the TNC (eye, ear and heel tests). Differences were considered statistically significant at the 5% level. Crude and adjusted Poisson regressions were performed to estimate Prevalence Ratios (PR) and 95%CI for the association of socioeconomic, demographic and health variables with NCT. There was a statistically significant increase in TNC: 67.4% (95%CI: 65.5-69.3) in 2019, compared to 49.2% (95%CI:47.1-51.3) in 2013. However, there are still inequalities and gaps between the states of the federation and sociodemographic variables. Between the years, the TNC was lower in children of brown and black color/race, from the three worst income quintiles, without health insurance, registered in the Family Health Strategy, in the north region, in cities in the interior and in the rural area from Brazil. Despite the increase in the prevalence of NCD, inequalities and individual and contextual gaps remained, indicating the challenges of health policies in the search for broad and homogeneous coverage of NCD in the country.
