Abstract:

The aim of this study was to find out the orofacial pain prevalence and its impact on oral impact on daily performance in the textile industries‘ workers in the municipality of Laguna, Brazil. A cross-sectional study involving all workers (n= 267) of the five textile industries of the municipality in 2004 was carried out. Data were obtained through the questionnaire proposed by Locker and Gruska and the Oral Impact on Daily Performance indicator. It also was collected gender, age, level of schooling, income, function and absence to work due to orofacial pain. Data were descriptively analyzed and prevalence ratios and confidence intervals were calculated. The prevalence of orofacial pain was 32.2% and oral impact on daily performance was 28.5%. The logistic regression model indicated that the orofacial pain was the only variable statistically associated with the oral impact on daily performance, increasing its prevalence by more than 22 times, compared to those without orofacial pain. It was concluded that orofacial pain prevalence was high among workers, constituting a predictive factor for the oral impact on daily performance.
