Abstract:

This paper presents a bibliographic review about school health in Latin America based on papers published between 1995 and 2012 and reflects the potential of its establishment as public policy. It was possible to identify the persistence of initiatives centered on disease with a focus in screening and preventing actions. However, the election of health promotion as strategic axis of school health has driven changes. In this context, the challenges are the definition of roles in planning and executing programs and the effective experience of the broader concept of health. Create and strengthen participation spaces with students, teachers, health professionals and community is indispensable to build fairer and healthier realities.
