Abstract:

We analyzed the use of protocols in health care for women suffering sexual violence from the perspective of professionals. Qualitative study conducted in 18 institutions with 140 professionals interviewed in Fortaleza and Rio de Janeiro. After data organization, the clusters of meaning pointed to the potentialities in the use of protocols; limits to be faced in the adoption of protocols; and the need for the development of a protocol and professional qualification. The results showed points of convergence and divergence between the two municipalities regarding the use of protocols in health care for women suffering sexual violence. In Rio de Janeiro, the adoption of protocols in the services by the majority of interviewees and the existence of a established flow are recognized and involve the work of professionals from different areas. In Fortaleza, only the participants of one single institution reported the use of health care protocols and internal flows. In both capitals, there is a poor professional qualification to work with women suffering sexual violence resulting from the limited approach to the subject during the undergraduate years of healthcare professions and being aggravated by the lack of training in the services.
