Abstract:

This study aimed to evaluate the association between quality of life and clinical and sociodemographic variables in type 2 diabetic patients after starting treatment in Primary and Specialized Care. This is an analytical cross-sectional study with a sample of diabetic patientsprimary care (n=385) and Specialized (n=385). The dependent variable, quality of life, was assessed by the Diabetes Quality of Life Measure - Brazil. Clinical and demographic data were collected. Bivariate analysis using the chi-square test tested the association between dependent and independent variable. Then multiple logistic regression analysis was performed. In Specialized Care, individuals who performed physical activity were less likely to have worse quality of life and those with shorter time of diagnosis were more likely to have worse quality of life. In primary care, those who made diet and who had glycated hemoglobin ≤7% had less chance to have worse quality of life. Female already had more chance of worse quality of life. It was concluded that with the exception of the time of diagnosis and sex, the other variables that influence the quality of life of diabetics were modifiable factors (glycated hemoglobin, diet, and physical activity).
