Abstract:

The present research has the purpose of analysing national scientific articles that discuss the quality of life related to the health of children and adolescents. The research was based on the bibliographical review approach. The databases consulted were SciELO and Bireme yielding a total of 30 articles published during the period of 1990 to 2008. The articles confirmed the predominance of quantitative methodologies (70%) with a high incidence of applications of HRQL (66,7%) as opposed to generic tools (28,6%). The concept of quality of life was utilized in two slopes: in the framework of the scientific research and as an element of desired results of health-care and health-policies. The construct is presented by means of a multidimensional perspective, comprising no less than the social, psychological, physical and individual dimensions which naturally implies that the individual himself should evaluate his own quality of life. An increasing valorisation of children and adolescent as spokesperson of their life experience. The article draws attention to the inevitability of creation and utilization of instruments of quality of life for children and adolescents that value their perspective about their health processes through adequate instruments to each phase of development. The assessment of quality of life should be incorporated in clinical evaluations considering chronic illness has repercussions in diverse dimensions of the life.
