Abstract:

Objective: The purpose of this study was to carry out a review of scientific literature about quality data from the Information System on Live Births (SINASC).
Methods: There were reviewed studies in the MEDLINE, LILACS and SciELO databases. The articles were characterized according to journal of publication, locality and period of the study, evaluation parameters, methodology and principal results. .
Results: There were revised 13 articles. Eight studies analyzed the coverage, four the completeness and seven the reliability. Coverage higher than 90% was presented in the majority of the studies, indicating its viability for indicators calculation. However, the under-reporting of births in the SINASC prevailed with variation between 75.8% and 99.5%. Mother’s educational level, parity and number of prenatal visits were the variables that had shown to greater unreliability. In turn, the parity was the one that showed to greater incompleteness.
Conclusions: As privileged strategy for the improvement the quality of the system, highlights the importance of development of new forms of assessment the SINASC.
