Abstract:

CONTEXT: The relationship between people and work may have a direct impact in their quality of life and health condition. OBJECTIVE: To compare the Quality of Working Life (QWL) conditions of three different professional fields. METHODS: This is a transversal study with a randomized sample of 172 hospital workers (37.9 ± 10.3 years; 73.8% women). Participants responded to the Quality of Working Life assessment inventory (QWL-AI). We used the ANOVA and Tukey’s test to analyze data. RESULTS: 36.4% of items which assessed work conditions and 35.7% of items about professional growth and recognition showed differences between groups (p < 0.05). In the scopes of socio-professional relations, work organization and work-social life link the indexes were of 12.5%, 11.1% e 10.0%, respectively. In general, 21.7% of the researched items show significant differences between groups. CONCLUSION: We found important differences in perceived QWL between fields, which suggests that effective planning may result in health promotion, as long as the demands of each field are met.
