Abstract:

In the presence of high-risk pregnancy, the follow up of a good feeding is even more important in maternal and neonatal morbimortality. To promote a good diet, the dietary guidance should include sociocultural factors as they influence both, patterns and food selection of each population. The aim of this study was to describe the sociocultural contexts of pregnancy and feeding in the domestic scope, using a qualitative approach. In-depth interviews were conducted under the technical of information saturation to six women with a high risk pregnancy. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed according to Bardin and using the Atlas TI program. We identified: uncertainty pregnancy characterized by not being planned and limited partner support; a few dietary changes to improve health; self-perception of a bad and good feeding, although it didn’t mean that it met with the characteristics of a good diet; omission of the dinner and the group of fruits and vegetables; the ones in charge of preparing and serving food were not always the pregnant woman; the foods perceived as dangerous, were consumed, and as beneficial with limited use. It highlights the needs to train professionals to consider the sociocultural context when providing dietary guidance.
