Abstract:

The objective is to analyze the socioeconomic and demographic factors associated with the recurrence of teenage pregnancy, as well as to verify the association with unfavorable maternal and neonatal outcomes. It is a cross-sectional study, based on data“Nascer no Brasil”, composed of adolescent mothers and their newborns. Univariate and multiple logistic regression were used to indicate the factors associated with this recurrence. Recurrence of teenage pregnancy was associated with maternal age of 17-19 years (OR = 3.35; 95%CI = 2.45-4.59), and inadequate education for age (OR = 4.34; 95%CI = 3.50-5.39), with no intention of becoming pregnant (OR = 2.34; 95%CI = 1.77-3.08), to reside in the state capital (OR = 1.40; 95%CI = 1, 10-1.78) and the fact that the partner is the head of the family (OR = 2.07; 95%CI = 1.47-2.91). However, as independent primiparous adolescents, there is a greater chance of hypertensive disease (OR = 1.54; 95%CI = 1.01-2.35) and restricted intrauterine growth (OR = 1.90; 95%CI = 1.23-2, 91). It is concluded that there is a high percentage of adolescent pregnancies in Brazil. Adolescents with a partner, little education and no reproductive planning are more exposed to having two or more pregnancies before the age of 20, demonstrating difficulties in postponing the first pregnancy. However, as primipara adolescents, they are more likely to have complications than multiparas.
