Abstract:

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the perception about dental services and oral health in a population of hypertensive and diabetic ascribed to the Family Health Strategy in Alfenas, MG, Brazil. This was a household, descriptive-analytic study, with randomized and stratified sample consisting of 186 subjects. Most of the participants are female (67.74%), with only arterial hypertension (58.60%), with a predominance of elderly (52.69%) - average age of 64.26 (± 12.22). It was applied to the contents of Decayed, Missing and Filled Teeth (DMFT=27.00 [±6.24]); Functional Teeth Index (FS-T=8.94 [±10.28]); Dental Care Index (DCI=19.42 [±26.80]); use and need of prostheses (39.78% using partial dentures, 56.45% using total denture, 36.02% requiring partial dentures and 28.49% requiring full dentures); and the Oral Health Assessment Questionnaire in Primary Care (modified ASBAP-user, with a predominance of positive services assessments by users). The Oral Health proved to be better among subjects who reported good relationship with the dentist and worse among those who consider as good equipment used in services. There are critical points in the services: access, speed and professional-patient communication.
