Abstract:

Adolescence is a period in human development characterized by important and deep biological, psychological and social modifications in which take part all of its familiar and social environment. This stage, in which one can count on good investment opportunities, is also surrounded by various risks, including violence. Nowadays it is the main cause of death among adolescents and is considered a public health concerning area. This research wanted to investigate the representation of violence in adolescents from Jaboatão dos Guararapes city’s public schools. This is a qualitative study, in which the data obtained by a questionnaire was analyzed following the content analysis technique. The results show that violence representation is considered a harming act, being its physical form the most mentioned. Drugs usage was seen as its main cause. Deploying more policemen was the most remembered retaliation strategy; forming a family was the most commented project. As a conclusion, the relevance of a major discussion about more concealed violence forms is visible, what would contribute to reflections about new prevention proposals and a better visibility of this phenomenon.
