Abstract:
This article analyzes care practices and the process of HIV diagnosis disclosure to children and adolescents living with HIV/AIDS. A case study was carried out in a clinic located in a public hospital in Rio de Janeiro through participant observation, semi- structured interviews with health professionals, and consultation of documentsproduced by them. Based on the sociology of Simmel and Goffman, the analysis shows the diagnosis disclosure as a mark that accompanies all the care established with patients and reveals issues such as secrecy, stigma, and possible understandings about the specified health condition. It is concluded that institutionalized relationships contribute to progressive contact with the state of carrying a stigma and create phases of a \"patient\'s career\" protected by information.
