Abstract:

The right to health intertwines with the right to the city in that, by guaranteeing healthy urban spaces for the population, it will also reduce inequities and expand the enjoyment of the positive effects of urbanization to disadvantaged groups. In this sense, the interconnection between the right to the city and the right to health is hypothesized as the propellant necessary for the promotion of equity. This article seeks to explore this interconnection between the right to the city and the right to health, anchored in an integrative review, guided by the question: What knowledge has been produced about the right to the city and the right to health in the light of equity? We analyzed evidence available in the literature indexed in PubMed / Medline, Lilacs, SciELO between 1986 and 2016. In these three decades analyzed, different levels of presence of the right to the city and the right to health were identified in the formulation of policies and in the agenda of social movements. Formulations around population growth move awaythe rights agenda, while in a later phase of the democratic consolidation it is revitalized the fight for rights to health, in a third moment of political visibility of the excluded geographical spaces and the multiple identity agendas, the struggle for the right to the city in strengthened..
