Abstract:

The aim of this study was to investigate the medicines stored in households of communities attended by Family Health Strategic (FHS) in city localized in South of Brazil. The sample was composed for 10% of households of each five FHS. Community Healthcare Workers collected the dates by a questionnaire of Fernandes (2000). The interviewed mean of age was 42 years and of the residents was 16 years, of them, 51% were female. It was observed a low income (1 to 3 minimum wages) and education levels (0 to 4 years of study). 98,7% of the household visited had at least one drug store,. In 533 storages places founded, 43,5% of this places was exposed to hot, 39,6% was exposed to humidity, 16,51% to light. In 37,3% of households the medicine were at children’s reach and there were children living at them. In the households, it was founded 2.717 medicines, 6,9% of them were expired, 35,3% of the medicines were note in the outer and 67,9% have not patient information leaflet. The analgesics were the most common medicines at in-house pharmacies (21%). This study shows the necessity of a multidisciplinary work to promote health and the rationalization of pharmacy home since the ACS is an essential professional to promote rational use os medicines".
