Aim: It was conducted a narrative review in order to explore the psychosocial intervention models in disaster situations.Methods: Documents were included from PubMed, SciELO, GoogleScholar and Medline between the years 1980-2014, in Spanish, English and French. In addition there were searched websites of international organizations and government websites, in order to gather documents and information related to reported experiences and results.
Results: There were indentified 4 types of psychosocial interventions in disaster situations: interventions based on time, focused on a specific type of disaster, interventions by spheres or action levels, and people-centered interventions. The analyzed approach models counted on differences and similarities, from the theoretical conception of the disaster and comprehensive view of the phenomenon.
Conclusions: This review highlights the need to create and support programs and interventions that place the focus on empowerment and community participation.
