Abstract:

The objective of this study is to characterize Brazilian/Latin American scientific production in the “field” of health and on health systems management specifically, taking work registered on the LILACS databases in the period 1987 to 2009 as a basis. The terms “health management” and “health systems”, identified in the BVS/Bireme “Health Sciences Descriptors” were used, had been found 1,544 works, of which 298 had been selected (19.3%). The reading and analysis of these abstracts favored the identification of a set of processed variable with use of software Epi-Info, such as: year of publication of the work; type of document; object of the study; type of study; theoretical bases and methodological approach/nature. The results point an irregular, however increasing trend, of the volume of the production in the area from the year of 1988, perceiving it emergency of studies and inquiries in sub-areas whose subjects disclose the influence of the process of construction of the SUS in the decades of 90 and in the following years. This draws attention to the fact that very few abstracts made reference to the theoretical bases used. From a methodological point of view it is observed that when it is declared in abstracts, descriptive studies and a qualitative approach are predominant.
