Abstract:

Health conditions of workers in the primary health care network are still little studied in Brazil. The aim of this study was to describe the pattern of self-reported morbidity by workers in Family Health Teams (FHT) in the northeast macro-region of Minas Gerais, Brazil. We carried out a transversal study, with self-applicable questionnaires, including socio-demographical data, labor and health situations to all workers in FHT. Self-related morbidity was categorized with the use of the International Classification of Primary Care, version 2 (ICPC-2). Information was collected from 1,731 workers in 204 primary care facilities. The group was formed predominantly by community health workers and women. The prevalence of at least one health problem was 26.1% for women and 18.3% for men. The main health problems were related to circulatory, muscular-skeletal, respiratory, endocrine-metabolic and nervous systems. The variables associated to health problems, after multiple analysis, were the feminine gender, age of 30 years old or more and time in the team equal to or superior to 5 years. The morbidity reported by the workers of the FHT is similar to that observed for the general population, highlighting the need for strategies to promote health as well for these workers.
