Abstract:

Self-perceived health has shown a close relationship with morbidity and mortality indicators. In hospital workers, there is a shortage of such information, so the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of satisfaction with health among workers of a University Hospital (UH) its association with adiposity indicators, blood pressure (BP) and physical activity (PA). The study included 380 adults aged 20-59 years with mean age of 43.92 years (SD= 8.46). Self-perceived health was assessed using a question extracted from the "WHOQOL-bref" questionnaire. Satisfaction with health was 60.8%, and women reported being less satisfied. The analysis adjusted by sex indicated that present eutrophic BMI was associated with higher incidence of satisfaction with health (PR=1.478 [CI 95%: 1.272 – 1.717]) followed by WC (PR=1.323 [CI 95%: 1.135 – 1.541). BP and PA were not associated with self-perceived health. In conclusion, UH workers recognize the risks to their health, however, they neglect the importance of maintaining adequate blood pressure values and regular practice of PA in order to prevent the onset of chronic diseases.
