Abstract:

Objective: Evaluate the prevalence of self-reported hypertension in adults 20-59, identify factors associated with the use of health services and disease control practices, according possession or not of health plan services. Method: Population-based survey conducted in Campinas-SP, in which 957 adults were analyzed. Results: The prevalence of self-reported hypertension was 14.1%, revealing higher among women, individuals aged ≥ 40, in that said black color, with less educated, in inactive leisure, former smokers, in those overweight or obese, in reporting two or more chronic diseases and self-rated health as not being excellent/very good. There were no inequalities among hypertensive patients covered by health plans and dependent SUS as access to service, use of drugs to disease control and be focused on the care of the disease, but there were differences in physical activity and dietary use. Conclusion: Despite the equity disclosed in access to health care is incipient the proportion of adults who adopt changes in lifestyle to control the disease, reaffirms the central role of health policy management, who need to work intersectorally to achieving the goals set by the Ministry of Health.
