Abstract:

The adverse situation of men in relation to health services mobilized the construction of this work. The research aimed to understand the meanings of health and ways to care for themselves produced by male users of Basic Health Unit - UBS in Manaus. The proposal constituted as qualitative research addressed through semi-structured interviews, male users and healthcare professionals of a Basic Health Unit - UBS located on the outskirts of Manaus / Amazonas. Data were analyzed using techniques Thematization, Content Analysis and processuality Sense founded by Social Constructivist approach discussed by Spink. The research revealed the multifaceted issue of gender, which show that men "are not all equal", there masculinities. The men interviewed in the health service have shown that meanings of health that they share with each other, but they also differ in many dimensions. The survey reflected that the plurality of meanings of health and performance care of themselves confer health human character and claim the role of users in the system construction of comprehensive health care. Point to indicators that can contribute to health interventions for increasing the visibility of men in health services and consequently the ability of services to deal with them.
