Abstract:

The models of teaching social sciences and clinic are insufficient for the needs of practical-reflective teaching of social sciences applied to health. The purpose of this article is to reflect on the challenges and perspectives of social science education for health professionals. In 1950 began the important movement towards social sciences to the field of health, however professionals still have weak credential due to: low professional status of social scientists in health; unclear location of professional social sciences in the health field; little importance given by students in the social sciences; small number of professionals and the colonization of the social sciences by the biomedical culture in the health field. Thus, the professionals of social sciences applied to health are still placed the need to build an identity, even after six decades of presence in the field of health, because their ambivalent status has been establishing them as partial, incomplete and virtual presence, requiring complex survival strategy in the border between social sciences and health.
