Abstract:

Social stigma associated with TB is a challenge to the public healthcare management. The authors have proposed to investigate the event in the patient‘s relatives and identify theirs socioeconomic and demographic profiles. This cross-sectional study was carried out in Ribeirão Preto city, São Paulo, Brazil in 2011, where was selected a sample of 110 patients‘s families. The sample have been analyzed under the Univariate Descriptive and Cluster and Multiple Correspondence Techniques. According to this research groups with stigma have presented lower education, incipient access to the media and fewer mobilization in learning about TB, instead of those that have high educational levels, continuous access to the media, consider themselves well informed and show proactive attitudes to deal with the disease. Identification of varied profiles highlights the need to develop health interventions sensitive to singularities of families regarding to social stigma associated.
