Abstract:

This study aimed to analyze structural features of the social support network of older adults with chronic pneumopathies, making relations with the maintenance/rehabilitation of health. It used the assumptions of the Social Network Analysis (SNA) methodology, addressing the concept of social support and its dimensions. In data collection was used a questionnaire and semi-structured interview, both applied to 16 older adults assisted by a public hospital of Fortaleza-CE. Quantitative data were processed using the software programs UCINET 6.123, NetDraw 2.38 and Microsoft Excel. In qualitative analysis, the body material was subjected to interpretations relied on relevant and current theoretical references. Each informant brought into the network an average of 10.37 individuals. Among the 3 types of social support, there was a predominance of informational support stemming from health professionals. Still, it was noted the importance of the reciprocity in providing/receiving social support, as well as the participation of health professionals and the family functioning as it. It was concluded that the network of older adults with pneumopathies is not very cohesive, restricting itself to the personal network of each one, and that even then, the informants recognize and are satisfied with the social support provided by its.
