Abstract:

Objective: To describe the spatial distribution of vaccination coverage against Human Papillomavirus (HPV) in Maranhão. Methods: Retrospective ecological study, with data analyzedthree age cohorts for boys (16 years, 17 years, 18 years) and girls (13 years, 14 years, 15 years). The units of analysis were municipalities and health regions, with coverage classified as adequate or inadequate, and spatially distributed across the territory. Results: Regarding vaccination coverage of girls in the State Health Regions, 84.2% achieved adequate coverage only for the first dose of Cohort 1, but only 26.3% of these regions achieved the same coverage for the second dose. With regard to boys, all the cohorts analyzed showed lower results, with only 26% of the regions achieving adequate coverage for any dose, with heterogeneous spatial distribution. Conclusion: The study revealed important gaps in vaccination coverage in the State for both boys and girls. The spatial heterogeneity found indicates challenges to be overcome in the implementation of the vaccination program in the municipalities of the State.
