Abstract:

This research aims to assess the breastfeeding intention in high-risk pregnant women and other related factors. This is a cross-sectional, quali-quantitative study, with 1,118 high-risk pregnant women that attended the prenatal care at specialized Unified Health System center. The dependent variables were exclusive breastfeeding intention, intended duration and conditions that may interfere with breastfeeding. The programs Epi Info 7.4.1, Bioestat 5.3 and IRAMUTEQ 0.7.2.0 were used for data processing. The results showed that 8.76% of the pregnant women showed conditions that could affect lactation. Among all the women, 93.83% affirmed having exclusive breastfeeding intention, out of which 69.86% intend to breastfeed until child was six months old, showing an association with sociodemographic variables (p
