Abstract:

The study has the objective of analyze cases of children and adolescents victims of different forms of violence, registered in the Surveillance System for Violence and Accidents / VIVA / MS, Feira de Santana-BA/Brasil. It was used the total number of records (432), since the implementation of VIVA in the city (01/2009 to 01/2011), the analysis searched associations between characteristics of violence and profiles of victims and perpetrators. The results showed that children and adolescents were molested by different types of violence, with the use of physical force, verbal threat and weapons; occurred several injuries, approximately 35% were hospitalized and 15% progressed to death. Physical violence was more common in males (55.6%), in adolescence (55.6%), occurred at home (59.6%) and caused by family (57.4%), sexual violence occurred with greater frequency with females (79.3%), in childhood (53.7%), 55.5% of the cases occurred at home and is most often perpetrated by acquaintances (62.8%) and family (37.2%). The results suggest the importance of investments in institutional strengthening, through policies and programs for prevention and harm reduction, seeking to expand coverage in the care and improvement of the information system.
