Abstract:

Objective: To identify method of nutritional screening specifically, for use on domiciled older people in Brazil. Methods: Systematic review article using the databases of “PubMed, LILACS and Web of science”. The eligibility criteria were: article about nutritional screening methods for older adults. The articles were read by evaluators who ed the methods and classified, according to evidence of validity, reproducibility e acceptability. The EndNote software was used for management of the articles. Results: 12 methods of nutritional screening have been identified, three being developed for use in the US population (n=4) and none for the Brazilian population. In seven methods the fill mode was self-administered by older people, being that 4 presented anthropometric measures. Only one method showed information on acceptability. The reproducibility and validity was identified in 1 and 8 method, respectively, however only the Determine Your Nutritional Health® - DNH method presented acceptability data, a fundamental aspect in the choice for adaptation and use in another country. Conclusion: Among the methods studied the DNH was the most appropriate for cross-cultural adaptation and use on domiciled older people in Brazil.
