Abstract:

While the history of Primary Health Care (PHC) in the Brazilian Federal District (DF) is somewhat old, the history of Family Medicine (FM) is much more recent, both locally and nationally. This article proposes to focus on the fundamental contribution of the MFC to advances in Public Health in the DF, especially in the last 10 years, after the foundation of the Brazilian Association of Family Medicine (ABMFC). In order to do so, the most relevant historical events and its contexts related to Health Care, Management, Social Control and Medical Teaching were documented, as well as the development of the specialty in the DF. Therefore, its organization was divided into four historical stages: until 2008,2008 to 2011,2011 to 2016, and2016 to 2018.
