Abstract:

The high rates of obese people submitted to bariatric surgery as a treatment for obesity, has generated the need to carry out a study in order to know the effects of this treatment on the health of a group of individuals submitted to it. The research had a qualitative approach and was collected by the profundity interview technique. It’s was focus to identify the history of the obesity situation which generated the decision for the surgery and process of living healthy quotidian after this treatment. The analysis showed that the constant difficulties and frustrations in combating the obesity and the expectation of the definitive cure generated in that group, the decision to submit to surgery. Meanwhile, life after the surgery, yet was characterised as a continuous process of confrontations with more challenges to learn how to live again and redeem the integral health. This implies also challenges for the health team; involves greater investment in public health, improvement strategies for prevention and control of obesity of the population and shares of integrated care for those individuals. This complexity requires interdisciplinary expertise to look synchronized with the emotional issues and socio-cultural this population.
