Abstract:

This essay seeks to produce memories about the paths in constructing health policies for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transvestites, and transsexuals (LGBT) in Brazil, based on the notion of sexual politics. Based on the construction of a timelinethe creation of the Unified Health System until now, the article presents: the first productions of health carethe AIDS epidemic in the 1990s; how health becomes the object of public policies, the result of government dialogue with the organized social movement, having as a reference the perspective of human rights and the production of citizenship for people who dissident the cisheteronormativity; and finally, the comprehensive health approach as a premise of the LGBT health policy. At a time of advances by conservative forces and the dismantling of rights, we point out the current challenges for constructing comprehensive health care that considers sexual and gender diversity.
