Abstract:

Maternal milk is the main source of feeding in early childhood. In the absence of this type of feeding, there are secondary alternatives such as human milk banks. In the Brazilian case, the adoption of this source started in 1943, with the establishment of the first milk bank. Since then, through different stages was developed a national model that led to the creation of the Brazilian Network of Human Milk Banks. As a consequence, several international cooperation projects initiatedthere, with the Brazilian model considered relevant especially for developing countries. The main objective of this analysis is to understand what motivates Brazil to promote milk banks internationally. To achieve it, we seek to understand the relationship between health and foreign policy, expressed here in terms of soft power, since there was a dialogue in these acts. Among the results are important gains in both areas and health affirmed as a central objective of the national interest cluster of the case.
