Abstract:

This study aims to know what hospital workers think about the ecologic debate, searching fundaments that may stimulate a discussion about the development of responsible actions, taken by these subjects, in the context of hospital work. The theoretical reference used for this discussion is based on the concept of Society of Risk and Reflexive Modernity, supported by contemporary sociologists. This is a qualitative approach research, which used the case study as main strategy and it was carried out with hospital workers of a public institution. The data were collected using documental analysis, field observation and individual and group interviews. The study reveals that the hospital workers have a rather distant view in terms of the environmental issue, what is reflexively affected by the present ecologic debate. This concept has the influence of specific factors in the context of hospital work. As a conclusion, it was evidenced the importance of educational actions with the workers, in order to find more responsible actions concerning the environmental preservation.
