Abstract:

Occupational Accident Surveillance System (SIVAT), implemented by the Piracicaba Worker’s Health Reference Center in 2003, is a consolidated program in accordance with the guidelines of the National Network of Workers Health Centers (RENAST). This article aims to analyze the history and development of SIVAT framed by the historical-cultural activity theory. For this, an documental analysis and a collective reflection on praxis were realized. It was identified two development and expansion cycles of the object ‘surveillance’: first, the action of the service aimed to suit companies with current legislation; second, the target was to drive companies to redesign organizational factors related to accidents prevalence, but not complied by organizations management. To achieve the object of prevention, one must take into account the need for new methods of intervention, based on the synchronization between the production of a diagnosis, the design and the implementation of solutions and, the development of internal protagonism in organizations.
