AbstractIn the last decades, the human activities have caused extreme impacts on the marine environment, causing alterations to the ecological process. The relationship between the health of the oceans, human activities and public health is already consensus; however, its mechanism is still under the eyes of science. These relationships include the focus about climate change, toxic algae blooms, microbial and chemical contamination in marine waters and bioinvasions of the alien species. Moreover, there is an increasing interest in the values of the oceans to the human health and well being, such as natural products relevant to the human diet, development of biomedicine, or simply, the satisfaction derived from human recreation, sports and other interactions of humans with oceans. The link between public health and the health of the oceans is rising, in part, due to the growing number of people living in coastal areas, mainly in tropical and subtropical regions. Therefore, the human activities based on uncertainties have promoted a risk to the marine environmental health and increased the vulnerability of humans and biodiversity, mainly involving natural disasters and contaminations.
