Abstract:

This paper proposes that biomedical obesity diagnosis is insufficient because it is necessary to know more about the consequences of different lifestyles, ways of eating, and the impact of lifestyles on the health of the population. We trait to reflects on obesity and its definition as a social problem. The article also points out that an analysis about the standardization of international strategies against obesity and reflects on the effects of handling a limited view of culture and food. This work is the phase of a theoretical problematization of the project called Socio-anthropological approach to childhood obesity in three case studies: Spain, Mexico and Cuba.
