Abstract:

The control of pain and prevention of suffering during labor and birth are some of the goals of the obstetric team. It shall work to ensure the pregnant woman a safe and satisfactory delivery. There are several techniques that can be used by the physiotherapist, as member of the obstetric team. The physiotherapeutic support baths, cryotherapy, massage, breathing techniques, walking, vertical positions and TENS. Through the bibliographic research carried out, it showed that the use of TENS for analgesia still has inconclusive results; however, all other techniques are described by related literature as beneficial, and shall be encouraged during expansion and expulsion. The Physiotherapist showed to be useful while supporting the pregnant woman during labor, helping to reduce her perception of pain.
